Free Online Markdown Editor and Previewer

Writing a README, a changelog, documentation, or notes in Markdown is a lot easier with a live preview next to what you're typing, so you can see tables, task lists, and formatting render as you go instead of guessing. This tool supports GitHub-Flavored Markdown (tables, task lists, strikethrough), and lets you export what you write as a .md file or as rendered HTML.

  1. 1Open the Markdown Editor tool.
  2. 2Start typing, or click "Load Example" to see GitHub-Flavored Markdown features in action.
  3. 3Your preview updates live as you type. On smaller screens, switch between "Write" and "Preview" tabs.
  4. 4Click "Copy HTML", "Download .md", or "Download .html" to export your work.

Frequently asked questions

What is GitHub-Flavored Markdown (GFM)?

It's an extended version of standard Markdown that adds tables, task lists (checkboxes), strikethrough text, and automatic linking of URLs, the formatting most people actually mean when they say "Markdown" today. This tool supports it in full.

Is it safe to paste Markdown from somewhere I don't fully trust?

Yes. Any raw HTML or script tags inside the Markdown are displayed as plain text in the preview rather than executed, so pasted content can't run code or inject unexpected formatting into the page.

What's the difference between the two export options?

"Download .md" saves your raw Markdown source, editable again later in this tool or any other Markdown editor. "Download .html" saves the rendered output as a standalone HTML file you can open directly in a browser or paste elsewhere.
