Frequently asked questions

How is the word count calculated?

Words are counted by splitting the text on whitespace, the same way most word processors count words. Punctuation attached to a word doesn't split it into two.

Does pasting from Word or Google Docs affect the count?

No, pasted formatting is ignored. Only the text content is counted, so the number matches what you'd get counting the same text anywhere else.

Is my essay or document saved anywhere?

No. Nothing you type or paste is stored, sent to a server, or kept after you leave the page. It only exists in your browser tab while you're using it.
